In the foothills of Mt Canobolas - the state's highest mountain range west of the Great Dividing Range lies a town with a fruity name totally unrelated to its thriving apple and wine industries. It's a smidge more than 250km west of Sydney (around 3.5 hour's drive), making it a little too far for a day trip but that's ok. This idyllic region deserves at least a couple of indulgent days spent pampering your palette with gourmet delights and some incredible wines whilst ambling around its wide streets and the historical villages that surround it. Best time to visit is shy of winter (be sure to pack your winter woollies) when the trees turn amber and firewood burns the same colour. Crack open a red and enjoy.
