While many editions of the legend of King Arthur exist, Malory's is the definitive classic. Thought to have been written in Newgate Prison during the last three years of his life, it was edited and first published by William Caxton in 1485, 15 years after Malory's death. It was one of the first, and remains one of the greatest, prose works in English.
